Simple Twist I

This is a fast and easy macrame technique. The hardest part is being patient
and twisting the cords as tight as they can possibly go.

First, choose at least two cords in different colors. If they are thin in
texture, use several lengths of each color. You can use several different colors.
It isn't necessary to knot the ends together; just tape them to a tabletop. Don't
leave a lot of space between strands.

Begin to twist the two cords around each other in one direction. Hold them
as close to the untaped ends as possible, and don't let them go.

Keep twisting until they are as tightly twisted as they can go.
You will know because they will start to make little sideways
lumps when you try to twist further.

Keep holding the twisted strands pulled taut. Use your other hand
to pinch the strands in the middle. Fold the strand so the loose ends
are now right against each other.

Now, let go of the folded end, while holding the loose ends.

Surprise!

Hold the double-twisted cord between your fingers and stroke
toward the folded end (to even out the twists).

Tie a knot in each end, leaving a bracelet in the middle long
enough to go around your wrist.

Cut the loose ends long enough to tie it on.
Cut the folded end and untwist the ends so they can tie, too.

If you used strands in multiples of three (three strands,
six strands, nine strands, etc.), you can put little braids in the loose ends.
